ASCE 2nd Region 10 Assembly Training Conference

Last May 2009, the 1st ASCE Region 10 Assembly Training Conference was held in Manila. All members of the Assembly, composed of the presidents of international sections and groups, were notified. However, the Notice was not received, no one from Taiwan showed up. The ASCE Region 10 Officers organized the ASCE 2nd Region 10 Assembly Training Conference (for Presidents of International Sections and Groups who did not make it to the May 2009 Manila Conference) on Monday and Tuesday September 28-29, at the CFIA Building in San Jose, Costa Rica. Current President, Dr. Edward Wang went and joined the conference and brought back lots of encouraging words from the ASCE Headquarter.

First of all, the ASCE-TWIG does have sufficient members to petition the Region 10 Board of Governors to form a section. This will bring a little funding to the Section when formed and will also allow ASCE-TWIG to seek a small dues payment from members of the section that will expedite in running programs. The second good news is that the ASCE Headquarter is going to explore ways to help finance some long distance training. The ASCE International Relation Director also made an announcement at the training that the student members do not pay any due to join.

The ASCE Costa Rica Chapter provided full support to the training conference. Their hospitality made the event a great success and a very memorable one.
