ASCE Fellows Taipei Rally
In the evening of April 2, 2010, 10 ASCE fellows who currently residing in Taiwan got together at the Grand Hotel in Taipei meeting each other face to face for the first time. The ASCE-TWIG officers shared many exciting new developments within the group. As the group plans to move toward the milestone of becoming a “Section”, ASCE fellows showed their support by committing themselves to serve on the Advisory Board. The dinner party started at 6:00 p.m. The current president, Dr. Edward Wang greeted all of the honorable guests at the door. The banquet attendees included Taiwan Group founding president, Dr. Nelson Chou, and past presidents. A special quest, Professor Jun Shang Kuang from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the recipient of 2006 T.K. Hsieh Award of ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers, UK) and the HKIE Transaction Prize in 2007 also joined the dinner banquet to testify the unity of the group.
A letter signed and sent by the ASCE President, Blaine D. Leonard was announced at the meeting. The ASCE International & Region 10 Director, Potenciano A. Leoncio, Jr., also sent his regard on behalf of the Board of Governors, the Assembly and Staff wishing everyone and the group all the best in pursuing goals and objectives. The Dinner Meeting discussed plans and programs to advance the interest of the Taiwan Group, and current issues related to professional development, and what the group can offer to promote globalization in the Civil Engineering Profession in Taiwan. As several fellows pointed out, the group will try to reach out to other long-lost members and ASCE fellows as many as 14 currently living in Taiwan. The dinner ended at 9:30 p.m. The group plans to meet at the “American’s Club” the next time.
